Here are some factual informations about the SARS disease (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrom) which is presently affecting Canada. We hope these informations will eliminate any fear you may have about your stay in Montréal this summer.

Since the start of the SARS epidemy, Canada have had about 40 deaths related to the disease, among a population of over 30 millions;

All deaths related to SARS and every infected people (all in quarantine) are from the Toronto area;

Toronto is located more that 500 km away from Montréal;

Since the start of the epidemy, not a single case of SARS has been detected in Montréal or in the province of Québec;

The Government of Québec and its partners put in place, since March 15, 2003, a surveillance plan in order
to ensure the early detection of any case of SARS in the province.
